Integrating a Guestmap

How to integrate a guestmap into your iWeb site
It’s a question that’s been asked a lot in the forums, so here is how I did it (as many others have now also done).

Go to Myguestmap and sign up for a free account.

Configure how you map will look under ‘ Guestmap Configuration’. Set up your height and width. The settings below will give you just the entire map. Make a note of the width, call it x, and height, call it y.
-

You can also set where the map focuses on when first loaded as below. Adjust as required.
-

There are more options that you can set if wished. Click 'Update' to save settings.

Now go to the ‘Usage tips’. You now need to copy the HTML that is shown next to ‘Guestmap URL’ and keep it safe somewhere. It will look something like this:

it’s a small world... -

You need to replace yourusername and x and y with your actual username and width and height values. Keep the inverted commas as they are in the text.

If you are unsure how to replace the text, please see my earlier article on cut and pasting HTML as mentioned above.

Save the file.

Test it by double clicking it. It should open in your browser with the map contained within.

If you find this article useful, please sign our Guestmap!

Got any comments or feedback or need help? Let me know!

You need this for later so that you can generate the text that will tell your browser to load the guestmap within your page.

Now, in iWeb, you need to go to the page where you want your map to appear. Bear in mind here that you will be following the principles outlined in one of my earlier articles here, about pasting HTML.

Insert a text box the size of your map, width x and height y as you’ve defined above. In the text box type some unique text, e.g., GuestMapHTMLHere. Do not vertically align the text.

Publish your site.

Find the html page with your map on it.

You need to replace GuestMapHTMLHere with the following:

Copy and paste this code into your HTML widget or textbox or page
Copy and paste this code into your HTML widget or textbox or page
